Anna Sabine MP raises Terry Hill Crossroads safety concerns with Somerset Council

After hearing from multiple constituents about the ongoing dangers at the Terry Hill Crossroads near Ammerdown, Anna Sabine MP for Frome and East Somerset has contacted Somerset Council to raise serious concerns about road safety at the site.

Anna visited the crossroads herself to better understand the issues being reported locally, including frequent near misses and the risk of collisions. She has since written to Somerset Council urging further action to improve safety for all road users.

Anna said:

“Road safety is an ongoing worry across Frome and East Somerset, with many sites frequently documenting collisions and ‘near misses’. I am frequently contacted by residents who are concerned about junctions like the Terry Hill Crossroads and want to make sure that Somerset Council are taking proper measures to improve safety.”

Following discussions, Somerset Council confirmed that the crossroads has already been identified within their Road Safety Engineering programme. The Council noted that a key issue appears to be drivers failing to give way to traffic travelling along the main A362 carriageway.

While signage in the area has been upgraded in previous schemes, the Council has agreed to investigate further safety measures. This includes exploring options such as vehicle-activated warning signs to better alert drivers approaching the junction.

Anna added:

“I am very pleased that the Council have committed to further investigation at this site and are taking these concerns seriously. I look forward to continuing discussions with them to find a resolution.”

Anna will continue to monitor progress and work with Somerset Council to ensure that residents’ concerns are properly addressed and that improvements are delivered to make the junction safer.

Somerset Council’s Lead Member for Transport and Waste Services, Councillor Richard Wilkins said:

“We are aware of the concerns of the community regarding this junction and are identifying a scheme to be part of a future road safety programme.

“We’ve had constructive discussions with the MP about this and are pleased to be working together on a potential solution at this challenging junction.”
