Frome and East Somerset MP, Anna Sabine votes against Family Farm Tax

Last night (Tuesday 2nd December) saw the House of Commons vote on several points on the recent budget including the introduction of what’s been called as the Family Farm Tax.

The motion will cut Agricultural and Business Property Relief, which means working family farms will not receive any relief from inheritance tax, potentially decimating their ability to continue.

“It’s deeply disappointing that the Government has refused to listen to farming communities and campaigners who have been clear about the damaging impact this change will have” Anna said following the vote,

Not only on rural areas, where so many jobs and services depend on our farms, but also on our wider national interests, including food security.”

“The Labour Government’s refusal to meaningfully engage with these concerns shows a continued disregard for regions like the South West, where the knock-on effects across the agricultural sector will be profound. I will keep standing up for our farmers and supporting them in their fight against this harmful policy”.

The resolution passed with 327 votes aye, and 182 noes.
